edit Analysis components

Even though these were the first features created in MSI, it was never quite advertised. Creating analysis graphs using Trend charts is a nice way to understand various musical creation trends. For example see the following links

Trends for Devarajan's works

Trends for Vayalar's creations

Similarly you can generate charts for nearly 500 each of the musicians, lyricists as well as movie directors to see who they have worked with, what kinds of preferences they have had and so on..

All the above charts look at the data from a movies point of view; you can do the same from a songs perspective. Go to the Songs tab and click on Top 5 to learn more about the works of various artists statistically. Simply Click on the "Top 5" link and type in the name of an artist:

Top 5 Preferences for KJ Yesudas

..or type in "Sreekumaran Thampi" and understand the trends for his songs

Sreekumaran Thampi's Preferences

All the ensuing charts can be further "drilled down" by clicking on various pie splices

edit Cached Charts Image Library

Daily tens of charts are automatically created and are stored in our cache for easier access. This has a potential to be used in documents and discussions all around.

Click here for the image cache

Note that the image cache contains merely the PNG files and associated area mapping (that lets you click on it to drill down).

edit Paginating Song Search Pages

Anyone who has tried looking for Yesudas songs on the Song search page would have been disturbed by the fact that the search turns out literally 1000s of hits. This of course is highly inconvenient to look at, but also might have crashed your browser in some cases. After months of procrastinating I have add the pagination feature for the search pages. I hope the feature is pretty intuitive :)

As you can imagine, this will create inherent issues for those folks who want to export the MSI data to their own local computers and work offline. Here are some easy ways to get around it. You are expected to by mildly HTML savvy in order to pull this off.

(1) Search the Portal tab or the static HTML songs and movies pages to find out whether the data you are looking for is already available in HTML form. If this is true, skips steps 2 & 3

(2) Make the appropriate song search. At the end of the search results you will find the actual number of matches that your search brought up. Make a note of that number

(3) Go to the URL (web address) of the page and make the following additions at the end of the web address

&page_no=none&page_size=<REPLACE THIS WITH THE ACTUAL NUMBER YOU MADE A NOTE OF IN STEP 2>

(4) Export the ensuing HTML table to excel using the Data->Import External Data as described below:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HA010450851033.aspx

Now a word on the philosophy behind providing this note. When most websites try to protect their intellectual property, we are sticking with our original mission of making everything available on the database freely available to anyone. If someone wants to create an alternative to MSI, feel free to do it!

edit Multi Search Capabilities in MSI

When searching for specific song details, you can get pretty nifty in the search criteria using the multi-search features.

For example if you are searching for songs that fit the following criteria, use the following link

"Comedy Songs Composed by Devarajan and written by Vayalar in 1960s that were sung by Pattam Sadan"

edit Hullo

It wasn't deleted, I just moved it (to here and repopulate the page because it doesn't have categories and stuff. I was going to move the content back yesterday, but didn't have the chance. I'm going to do so now and please tell me if there's anything else I could help you with. – (-_-)V cats the web bennylin (talkcont) 15:02, 7 August 2008 (PDT)
