Founded in 1960 by Johannes (Joe) C. Vanderwees and Laura Vanderwees, Vanderwees Home & Garden has remained a leading business of its kind in the Thunder Bay Region. Originally Joe and Laura Vanderwees operated from a single greenhouse, growing and selling bedding plants and vegetables. In 1978, their son John joined the business, and with John’s help, the Vanderwees family expanded their assortment of plants to include trees and shrubs, tropical plants, and a more extensive variety of bedding plants, not to mention gardening supplies.
Vanderwees Home & Garden’s continued success has allowed the business to expand to new heights again in 2005. From its beginning as a small, single greenhouse business, Vanderwees Home & Garden has grown to become a state-of-the-art garden centre. Providing its customers with the newest and best in garden products, Vanderwees Home & Garden still maintains its personal, friendly service, and attention to detail.
Vanderwees Home & Garden has over one thousand varieties of perennial, annual, and vegetable plants that are grown right here in its many greenhouses. (Over Four Acres!!!) Vanderwees Home & Garden features a complete line of water fountains and garden statuary from all over the world, come out and see the displays. The nursery is home to a wide variety of shrubs and trees, ideal for sprucing up your yard, while the gift shop contains an assortment of ideas for embellishing your home.
