Variable Spot Scanning

Variable Spot Scanning (VSS) is an Excimer laser technology developed by VISX. Contrary to traditional Fixed Spot lasers, VSS lasers offer greater flexibility and customizability for LASIK treatments.

Features

  • Seven-beam array:Seven laser beams are used in conjunction to enhance the precision of incisions in the eye.
  • Variable-size beams:Beam diameters range from .65mm to 6.5mm and can be varied dynamically.
  • Variable-shape beams:Beam shapes vary from spherical to cylindrical or elliptical.
  • Scanning capabilities:Each laser beam has the ability to scan the surrounding area as it removes tissue. This allows it to react flexibly and in real time to any variations in the eye.
  • CAP Customized treatments:Treatments can be customized to the idiosyncracies of your eye.

Benefits

The multiple variable laser beams allow the surgery to be tailored more effectively and accurately to the specifics of your eye. Furthermore, VISX VSS lasers remove less tissue from the eye than Fixed Spot lasers and do so in a shorter period of time. VSS lasers tend to produce smoother ablations which result in faster healing and better vision outcomes.
