Veedow is a personalised shopfront that recommends products in line with every user’s interests and taste. It inspires people by allowing them to discover great products that they didn’t know exist or that would have been hard to find otherwise. Say, StumbleUpon.com for consumer products. Veedow is a ‘social shopping’ website, where the individual shopping experience is enhanced by a social environment. Veedow uses the data coming from their users to generate algorithmic recommendations and it allows every user to share their experience, taste, wish list, or fab finds with friends and like-minded people.

To get much out of Veedow, you need to create an account. The idea is to first let the site know your interests so that Veedow can recommend items through its visual interface. Veedow makes this easy to do, organizing items first into high-level categories like “technology” and “men’s fashion” and then letting you drill down into more specific areas like “portable media players” and “polos.”
From there, your “My Veedow” page shows thumbnails of your latest recommendations, which you can drag and drop into your wishlist. There is also drag and drop functionality to move an item to the trash if you change your mind. Each item also features its own page, where you can leave ratings and comments. You can then click-thru to purchase the item from an online retailer, where Veedow makes money from referral revenue.
Veedow gets smarter the more you use it, improving recommendations based on your ratings and items you add to your wishlist. There are also some social features, so you can see what’s on other users’ wishlists and items they’ve uploaded to the site – anyone can add an item by entering in the product URL from an e-tailer.
Visual shopping is all about appealing to people that really like to shop by offering a compelling interface that makes useful recommendations. As opposed to knowing what you want and going to the appropriate store or online retailer to find it as quickly as possible, online visual shopping is essentially the online equivalent of casual window shopping. Veedow offers one of the best experiences we’ve seen so far in this arena, and should be a fun site to try out if you’re a shopaholic.
