The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center - Home
Description
Still in its first decade, the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center (VICC) is already recognized as a leader in cancer prevention, care and research. In 2000 the VICC was ranked among the top cancer centers in the country in a survey by U.S. News and World Report -- the youngest National Cancer Institute-designated facility to be included among the nation’s most elite.
Only a handful of centers in the Southeast have earned NCI designation, and the VICC is the only one in Tennessee dedicated to providing the most promising therapies and to advancing research in all types of cancer in adults and children.
Patients at the VICC are among the first anywhere to profit from new discoveries, largely due to the Center’s emphasis on "translational research." This means that VICC physicians and scientists are involved in rapidly bringing innovative discoveries from the laboratory to the hospital or clinic, where they can directly benefit patients. Researchers then use lessons learned in the clinic back in the laboratory, to confirm and extend their research.
