Title

Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund and Leadership Institute

Description

The Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute was founded in 1993, and has been granted 501(c)3 status by the Internal Revenue Service. It works to ensure that LGBT Americans are not excluded from the electoral process and does this work by offering through its Leadership Institute Candidate & Campaign Training program nonpartisan trainings on the ins and outs of campaigns. In addition, it works to help openly gay and lesbian officeholders develop professionally through its collaboration with the International Network of Lesbian and Gay Officials and co-sponsorship of the annual Gay & Lesbian Leadership Conference. It also sponsors the Leadership Institute Fellowship program, which offers full and partial scholarships to the Executive Programs at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Furthermore, the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute conducts current and historical research, tracking the number of gay and lesbian officeholders in the country and measuring the American people’s attitudes toward them. Lastly, it works to educate the American people on the contributions and challenges of openly LGBT public servants and candidates, notably through its presentation of "Out & Elected in the U.S.A.," a traveling photo and text exhibit on openly gay and lesbian officeholders.
