Walsall EBP operates within the boundaries of Walsall Council which is an industrial town, within the Black Country (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton), with a population of approximately 300,000. Walsall EBP works with all of the secondary schools in the borough and offers a range of activities to link education with business.
The local economy is dominated by engineering and manufacturing with well over 30% of the working population involved in these areas. There is a predominance of low value added, low skill work and the area has a very large proportion of small to medium size enterprises where there is often a reluctance to train. There are very few 'household' name companies and the majority of work is related to second, third and fourth tier suppliers to the automotive and electrical goods markets.
