Even though The War in Context is transparently liberal, my intention has always been that its content would fuel thought - not just serve as an echo chamber for like minds.

Before starting this site I sent out an email with the message subject line, "The War in Context." It was October, 2001, and I wanted to share a few articles with friends and colleagues who shared my concern about the implications of President Bush's declaration of war. A few months later I switched from emails to a blog and over the following four years my little reading list has grown to include over 13,000 articles. Visitors now stop by from Peoria to Mongolia. Hopefully, each departs with a few new ideas to chew on.
