- A high school art teacher encouraged Lonnie's early artistic talents and helped him choose to pursue a post-secondary art eduction. In 1969 he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from University of Colorado with a major in sculpture and a minor in painting. He emigrated to Canada with his young family that same year. He attended the University of Alberta and, after completing his Bachelor of Education degree, began to teach Junior High School and High School art and visual communications. In 1982 Lonnie took a sabatical from teaching and earned his Master of Eduction degree from the University of Calgary. He returned to work at the Calgary Catholic Board of Eduction as the Supervisor of Instructional Materials, a position he retained until his retirement in 2002.
