2004 West Indies Sugar Technologists Conference
Description edit
The 28th WIST Conference was held between June 14 and 18, 2004 at the Savannah Hotel in Barbados. It was attended by over 160 delegates from 15 countries. Many delegates, when they left the conference, spoke of a renewed sense of confidence in the future of their sugar cane industries. As such the Conference could be considered a success, but the task facing all workers now is to translate the renewed commitment into reality.
Role of the Sugar Association of the Caribbean
The Association is the central organisation in the English-speaking Caribbean, Guyana and Belize, which represents sugar growers and producers as a body. It deals with all matters affecting the sugar industry that are nor purely of a domestic and local nature. Its chief objectives, which have guided its work since its inception, are to promote and protect the sugar industry and to collect and publish information on the industry.
The sugar industry recognises its responsibilities as the main agricultural industry in the English-speaking Caribbean, Guyana and Belize, and aims at increased efficiency, together with the welfare of all those engaged in the industry.
