H. Joseph O'Connor, Jr., an Emmy award-winning "Nightline" producer and the current senior producer of WBUR/National Public Radio's "On Point," was today named general manager of WRNI-AM/WXNI-AM. (Click here for more information.)
WRNI is a non-profit, private organization supported by listeners and corporate underwriters. 1290 WRNI is a member of the WBUR Group, respected throughout New England as a primary source of thorough, intelligent coverage of local, national and international news.
In 1998, WBUR, Boston's NPR radio station, brought public radio news to Rhode Island for the first time by coordinating the acquisition of WRNI-AM (1290) in Providence. On May 1, 1998, WRNI began serving eastern Rhode Island and neighboring communities with a full service of international, national and local news programming.
