World Trade Center Healing Project-imagine peace crane
Description
World Trade Center Healing Project is a collection site for origami cranes used to represent peace and healing. Established three days after September 11th, our goal is to completely embrace an 8' sculpture representing the twin towers with 6 million peace cranes --- 1,000 cranes for each person kiled on that day. Aiming to displace some of our destructive memories by creating an empowering and compelling positive image to focus upon. Having visited Ground Zero we recognize that Americans are folding cranes in record number as a way to respond to this national tragedy that is deeply personal, patriotic without being political, spiritual but not religious, and sad yet hopeful. Together, we can send a message of peace and hope and healing that all will hear, and all can gain from. This work is ongoing until September 2002. Learn how to fold and contribute at this site or simply view photographs from our Thanksgiving 2001 crane event at Strawberry Fields in Central Park, where we handed cranes out to New Yorkers to let them know that we are thinking about them, with love.peace crane
