The York City Council president has drafted legislation he said will allow the city fire department to charge for each time it responds to a fire or a traffic accident as a way of paying for those services. "That's a way we can help bridge this (funding) gap without going back to taxpayers," President Cameron Texter said. Texter said he does not plan to introduce the bill in the immediate future. Alex Rios has a big fan in Baltimore Orioles third baseman Melvin Mora. Rios, Frank Catalanotto and Vernon Wells homered to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 6-3 victory over the Orioles last night in Toronto. Rios has four home runs in his last four games. He's hitting .341 with 15 home runs, 49 RBIs and eight stolen bases, but isn't on the ballot for the All-Star game in Pittsburgh. Mora thinks that Rios should be the first All-Star reserve named for the American League team. Full Story
A major warehousing business said it chose to locate in the York area rather than Harrisburg because the city south of the capital is becoming the "hot spot" for distribution services to the Northeast. Logisco, based in Brentwood, Tenn., said it selected York for the northeastern hub because of its location, availability of facilities and growth potential. The company began leasing 200,000 square feet of space in March at the former Caterpillar plant in Springettsbury Township. Full Story
