Description
I was born in Sydney, Australia, where I attended Julian Ashton School of Fine Art. After graduation, I worked in the advertising department of the largest department store in Australia and as a fashion illustrator with a top art studio. Then I started my own art studio, specializing in fashion illustrations.
In 1945 I married Bill Spreiter, U.S. Air Force, who was stationed in the Pacific area during WWII. Bill wanted me to travel on a large oceanliner to the USA, but it meant waiting a long time, so I settled for a 10,000 ton (small) troop ship which took three weeks to cross the Pacific Ocean to San Francisco. Then a meandering train journey to Onalaska, WI (population 1200), my husband’s hometown.
Shortly after that, I resumed my art career working on freelance assignments for Yost’s in Madison, WI (fashion illustrations), Doerflinger’s department store in La Crosse, WI (Christmas catalogs, fashions), and G. Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse, WI (beer product illustrations). I also worked for a large printing company and then left to start Spreiter Art & Advertising with my husband in 1969. In 1990, when I semi-retired, I decided to go back to watercolor, which was my first love.
