Ziebart International Corporation was founded in 1959. Based on an innovative process developed by Kurt Ziebart to prevent automobiles from rusting, Kurt Ziebart opened his first location in Detroit. The company quickly began expanding into neighboring Midwest cities. In 1963, the first international location was opened in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. In 1994, Ziebart International Corporation was bought by its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
