The International Society of Refractive Surgery

The International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (ISRS/AAO) is the world’s largest and strongest eye care organization that is solely dedicated to refractive surgery. ISRS/AAO has a strong international presence, with over 2,500 members from more than 80 different countries. Members are kept up-to-date on the latest in surgical techniques in refractive surgery through ISRS/AAO’s innovative educational programs, clinical and news publications, and meetings around the world.

ISRS/AAO was founded in 2003 when the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Refractive Surgery Interest Group (RSIG) joined forces. ISRS was founded in 1979 by Jose Barraquer, MD, Richard Troutman, MD and Miles Friedlander, MD, and RSIG was started in 1995 by the Academy’s Board of Trustees. ISRS/AAO continues a tradition of innovative ideas and powerful educational programs in refractive surgery.

ISRS/AAO cosponsors refractive surgery meetings globally and holds its own Refractive Surgery Subspecialty Day in conjunction with the Academy’s Annual Meeting. ISRS/AAO members receive a subscription to the acclaimed Journal of Refractive Surgery, featuring original research, and have access to exclusive information on breaking news in refractive surgery. Members also have access to opinion leaders in refractive surgery around the world through the online forum ISRS Net.
