The Journal Times Online

Description

The Journal Times is "Racine County's Daily Newspaper." Located midway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Interstate 94, The Journal Times serves a diverse county of 190,000 people with a focus on Racine, a city of 82,000. In addition to carrying state, national and international news, The Journal Times is the leader for news coverage regarding the Racine County area. Our Burlington bureau, located 40 minutes west of Racine services subscribers, advertisers, and carriers in western Racine County and is staffed by both circulation and newsroom staff. The Journal Times is part of the Lee Enterprises, Inc. family of companies.

We produce more than just a daily newspaper. In 1980, the Pennysaver was introduced to the Racine County area. The Pennysaver is an Extended Market Coverage (EMC) publication that is made available throughout Racine County. This product reaches over 50,000 households every Monday. The Journal Times also maintains the JournalTimes.com, RacineWeddings.com and RacineDining.com web sites. The JournalTimes.com site features many of the stories and photos found in the print edition, along with special interactive features unique to the Internet. RacineWeddings.com contains various information for those who are planning on getting married. It contains articles printed in our Bridal Guide that is published every 6 months. RacineDining.com has locations, information and coupons for different eating establishments around the county.

The Journal Times began as the Racine Weekly Journal in 1852. In 1856 the publication became a daily and changed its name to the Racine Daily Journal. This was a four-page evening paper that sold for $7 per year, paid quarterly in advance. Ownership changed several times during these early years and a Burlington office was opened in 1921. In 1932, the Racine Daily Journal merged with another daily paper, the Times and the Racine Journal Times was created. Lee Enterprises, Inc., the current owner, purchased the paper in 1968 and dropped Racine from the name and is now simply known as The Journal Times.
