Established three decades ago, Calvary Community Church in Phoenix is a non-denominational church led by Pastor J. Mark Martin. The church started out with just 11 people holding services in a Phoenix elementary school. Calvary Community Church is now home to a congregation of 12,000 members.

Martin felt called to start Calvary Community Church after being raised in a legalistic denomination. Wanting to teach others about God’s grace and love, he founded the church in 1982. Two years later, Pastor Chuck Smith invited the congregation to become part of the Calvary Chapel fellowship of churches.

Martin started his radio outreach in the early 1990s on a single local station. His teaching ministry, "Grace Upon Grace," now reaches listeners throughout the nation. The church has its own Internet radio station as well, which can be heard 24 hours a day at www.calvaryradio.com. The ministry also distributes free MP3 downloads, tapes, and CDs on a global scale.

The fast growth of Calvary Community Church over the years took the congregation from a school band room to its central campus location in a former shopping center at I-17 and Cactus Road. A former theater is now home to the church’s second location, known as the northwest campus, at 59th Ave and Bell Road. Services are held at the central campus on Sunday mornings and evenings, as well as Wednesday evenings. Those attending the northwest campus can join in services held on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Services at Calvary Community Church feature contemporary music and a relaxed atmosphere. The church offers a number of ways to get involved through several ministries and missions. Multiple groups and classes are also available to help members learn more about Christianity, expand their faith, and receive support during difficult times.
