Weather Game : Lets Connect the Dots and trace places across the world where Climate Change seems to have had the maximum impact in 2012. Events of extreme and unpredictable weather are taking place around the world at once as as we begin tracing these changes we will see if the truth about the changing climate is a sign of worse things to come.

Australia- The continent is suffering the ravages of large bush fires.

At the last count, some 95 bush fires were ablaze with 18 of them totally out of control.

States of Tasmania and New South Wales are the crisis centres and losses have been estimated to have crossed US $ 60 Million in the last few days alone.

Topping this is a shattering heat wave. Average Maximum Temperatures have topped 102.2°F (39°C) for a number of consecutive days almost doubling the previous record set in 1973. Sydney crossed 42 degrees centigrade on Tuesday last, the fifth hottest day since 1910. Another recent announcement is that of a category 4 tropical storm along the west coast of Australia, Named Narelle , this is going to severely impact the communities living along the coastline and they should prepare for strong winds and heavy rains.

China- Going Further west, China endured its coldest winter in the last 30 years. In the northern and southwest areas, winter wheat harvests have shrunk due to less rain . Rising Sea levels along the long coastline will impact cities like Shanghai in the coming years, these cities are the main exporting zones of the industry in the country. Despite its economic wealth, this Chinese city is considered to be the most exposed to the risk of flooding.

South East Asia and India- Extreme floods and rising sea levels are alarming the climate change scientists of this region. Thailand's economy stands to suffer while Vietnam and Philippines could be affected by severe water shortages resulting in poor agriculture and drought. Bangladesh is an extremely low lying country prone to floods from the Sunderbans delta lying close to the Bay of Bengal. Dhaka and large parts of western and Eastern India stand to be affected the most by floods, water borne diseases, food shortages and droughts.

Russia- The City of Yakutsk was freezing at minus 45.5 degree celsius so much so that the traffic lights stopped functioning. This temperature drop is 10 degrees lower than the normal average temperature of the season and is likely to continue for several weeks ahead. The Government has issued a warning asking hospitals to be on High alert and the elderly to stay indoors.

Middle East- Unusual rain, snow fall and hurricanes hit the Middle East. Countries like Turkey, Jordan, Palestine, Israel and Egypt were affected severely. Although snowfall is rare in the region, it is not unheard of. Jerusalem received its first snow fall much to the surprise of its residents. This has happened after a gap of 20 years. As a result the Suez Canal was temporarily closed.

Europe and UK- While most of North Europe was blanketed with heavy snow especially in Stockholm and Helsinki, Southern Italy and Sicily also reported severe snow storms in December. This was an unusual event as it hasn't happened since the second World War. UK was subjected to continuous torrential downpour as people in Britain could not fathom the consistent rain and the unprecedented flooding .Environment Agency officials still had 49 flood warnings and alerts in place after the recent deluge of wet weather and rising groundwater.

As for the US, 2012 was an year of extremes...The average temperature was 55.3°F, 3.3°F above the 20th century average and the rain was 26.57 inches, 2.57 inches below average. The nation was engulfed with drought especially in Mountain West, Great Plains, and the Midwest . Last but not the least, 11 disasters that include Sandy and Isaac were experienced in the Great Plains, Texas and Southeast/Ohio Valley.

Around the world this kind of weather has become common and scientists predict this is here to stay. Greenhouse Gas emissions will have to be decreased if we are to escape the clutches of a Weather Phenomena which has become a house hold name-Climate Change.
