Hello Randy,
 +
I am going through portals and removing the ones that either do not fit the definition of a portal or lack content at the moment.  Your Music Portal currently has no content so I am going to delete it.  If you wish to still work on, please just create it again at [[AboutUsPortalBuilder]].  It will shortly have even more options allowing you to customize your portal just the way you want it.  Thanks for your time and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on my [[User talk:Blake Hinckley| User Talk Page]].

Thanks,

Hello and welcome to the AboutUs wiki Randy! Check out the welcome page and ask me any questions you may have. Also, would you be interested in working on the peace category with me? Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here

Hi Randy, a FYI, I reverted the edits you made to MTV cateogies. Although I agree many of those items should be highlighted... check out the Internal Linking Guide and let me know if you have any questions. Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here

I did not like that you reverted to the idiotic robot build on MovieTV.com. Please put it back the way I had it. The catagories were quite well done as well as the related websites. Now you destroyed all the work I did to find the related catagories and add the sites.

Through the history tab [1] you can easily revert to your last version. no worries, it is wiki. Let me know if you have any questions.. Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here
Cool, glad that worked, I just made a mistake. I think it had something to do with the ALL CAPS stuff. MarkDilley, leave messages here

Geocities, dnstoys, google, securepaynet.net do not have anything to do with movietv.com or its catagories.

Why revert to catagories like

comment I want to see flim scount ????

You put it back.

Help with peace catagory? What does it entail? I have extreme POV on that issue and those people.

Yea, I jumped the gun on asking you, doesn't seem like your style, sorry, MarkDilley, leave messages here

When I learn all the facets of this interface and the edit tags I might be of some help. As a rabid anarchist it may or may not be suitable for peace catagory it depends on what the goal is. A question: you reverted to the original robot gumbo - why didnt you just edit it? I saw the restriction on 20 related domains. Yet the relationship of "related domains" is not explained. I put up what I see as related in the batch of domains - yet they are related to the tv and to the site family. Is it related to a family of owned sites or related to the whole of the entity? Reverting to the original which had so many bad errors in these fields gave me a bad flag instead of a heads up. I guess I have to understand what the "editors" here do?

You are right Randy, I have been catching up on over 4000 edits in the last 4 days, I am tired / exhausted. I made a bad call. I understand wiki to be self organized, you get to help decide what the editors here do. I just put a Category:AboutUs:Glossary together with Tak in the last few days. In my opinion, we are 13 weeks into this project, so things need to be figured out, but that is not much different from my philosophy of things needing to be figuered out in 13years or 130 years. Always a process of self organization. Maybe it would be better if we could talk about this. Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here

Nice capitalization fix, you are right, I should have done. MarkDilley

Actually I think I may be wrong. Look at what you are doing. Thousands of edits. I am lazy and there is a better way for all. The problem would be to make the listing proper and that falls to the person listing it. As editor one would tell the writer his errors first. Perhaps there is a way, a marker, to put on that sends them to the discussion page where the errors are explained and links to learning materials. In my case you would have put a flag on the page for me to see, I would read the problems and fix them. Perhaps a warning of 15 to 30 days before a reversion to make sure the writer had time to return to fix the problem. That allows a lot of time for all. Writers that care about the entries will return at least once a month to see. I think those were a LOT of caps and I did not realize. Putting that kind of burden on a volunteer is asking a lot. How do I contact direct?

I am available via skype, im or phone. which do you prefer? Best, MarkDilley, leave messages here

Categories

Hi Randy, you might want to check out AddCategory, some categories are helpful while others make it harder to find your company and undertand what you do. Kasey | talk

Hi Randy, I added a category to your front page User:RandyPenn

Hi Randy! I left a responded to you message on my talk page, re: the annoying adverts. On the subject of following what is going on here, you now can click watch page, and then in your preferences, get emailed when a page is changed. (including your talk page. ) fyi if you are interested. Best, MarkDilley

Let me know if that is clear enough. I am glad you are learning here, I certainly am! :-) As far as categories go, if we could have 15 minutes of voice contact, I think it would be easiest. Also, if you haven't see them think about Portals and their relationship to categories/tags. Best, MarkDilley

VideoSeconds.com Featured Discussion

Hi Randy, I just left this note on the featured discussion for VideoSeconds.com (as a reply to your note), but figured I'd also post it directly to your "talk" page so I knew you go it:

  • The pricing thing certainly was just a suggestion, although when I went to the site I was like "$.90! What a bargain!" so that was the impetus behind my mentioning it, more from a "That's amazing" or "That's so cheap" standpoint I thought it'd help with the advertising of the site. But if you feel it might denigrate the page with the prices, that's totally valid too. -- TakKendrick
    • Thanks, got it. I am still learning the approach here. I think there is a way to express what you see without crossing the line of crass commercialisim. I am pondering and hope I can come up with something. I am trying to understand the portal concept here. I am watching tons of pages now and found this page where problem pages were - of course I started to fix them but wondered if I am screwing pages on owners? Most of them do not seem to be hand built, just robots picking up keyword that mean nothing. SPECIALLY in the catagories. What a mess. Anyway nice to meet you. Randy Penn

Randy, you are correctly assessing the problem of categories. We pulled meta tag information from websites to populate the categories. Turned out not to be the best strategy. Kasey is interested in the problem, as I am also. Category:LongtailCategories is the start of my response to it. Best, MarkDilley

Help with Big Decision ... AboutUsLogo!

Hello Randy, there is a movement afoot to create a new version of the AboutUsLogo. I'd love it if you would come to AboutUsLogo and participate in creating this important decision about the look/feel for our site, after all ItsYourWiki!
