Serving workers, employers, childcare seekers and providers

With unemployment in Oregon currently at record numbers of more than 12 percent, most visitors to WorkingInOregon.org are there to learn about unemployment benefits, file an unemployment claim or access IMatchSkills.org. WorkingInOregon.org is also an important resource for Oregon business owners, who use the website to research economic and workforce trends, post jobs, find qualified workers and learn about employer incentive programs such as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.

The website also provides childcare information and support for workers and providers. Childcare is a factor in fulfilling the department's mission of developing and maintaining a diverse, multi-skilled workforce.

Unemployment benefit claims online

WorkingInOregon.org receives more than 1.2 million visits per month. Whereas the majority of visitors would normally be job seekers, most today access the online unemployment benefit claims system. The Oregon Employment Department currently pays out $200 million per month in unemployment benefits.

The department has handled the surge in benefit claimants by adding to its staff of 1,500 employees. Two hundred and six new workers will be hired to handle the annual winter increase in claimants. Staff will work on improving the website's interactive services and also improving the telephone filing system.

Benefit claimants can access benefits information and file claims online or via the department's telephone filing system. The online system is the fastest way to file.
