Description
Located approximately 475 miles south of Miami, the Cayman Islands are one of the most sophisticated and successful offshore financial centres in the world, well-known for the quality of its professional infrastructure.
There are more than 600 licensed banks and trust companies in the Cayman Islands, regulated to the standards of the Basle Convention and holding some US$750 billion in deposits.
The Cayman Islands are a British Overseas Territory with a Governor appointed by the UK. Although there is a large measure of internal self-government, the UK retains responsibility for internal security, defence, external affairs and the appointment of certain public officers, including judges. There is no racial or other political tension in the Cayman Islands and the Caymanians have expressed a strong desire to retain their present constitutional status.
