H1N1 è un nuovo virus che è stato scoperto nell'uomo ad arile 2009. In un primo tempo si pensava che si trattasse dell'influenza suina perché alcuni geni del virus sono simili all'influenza che colpisce i suini. Successivamente si è scoperto che in questo nuovo virus è avvenuto un fenomeno di "riassortimento" poiché sono presenti 2 geni dell'influenza suina, un gene del virus dell'aviaria ed un gene dell'influenza umana. Il contagio avviene da persona a persona, nello stesso modo in cui si trasmette l'influenza stagionale, L'11 giugno, l'Organizzazine Mondiale della Sanità, ha portato il livello di attenzione su questo nuovo virus a 6 su 6, dichiarando il periodo pandemico della nuova influenza, cioè l'aumentata e prolungata trasmissione del virus nella popolazione in numerosi Paesi del mondo. I sintomi del virus A/H1N1 sono simili a quelli di un'influenza stagionale: febbre, tosse, mal di gola, raffreddore, dolori articolari ,brividi e stanchezza. In alcuni casi sono stati riportati anche diarrea e vomito. I decessi sono stati causati da complicazioni insorte seguito dell'infezione. Al momento gli scienziati non sono in grado di prevedere la gravità della pandemia da virus A/H1N1 in termini di numero di persone contagiate o di decessi, quando comparirà anche l'influenza stagionale.

H1N1 is a new virus that was first detected in people in April 2009. It was originally referred as “swine flu” because many of the genes in this new virus were similar to influenza viruses that occur in pigs. Further study has shown that this new virus is a "quadruple reassortant" virus because it has two genes from flu viruses that normally circulate in pigs, avian genes and human genes. This virus is spreading from person-to-person, in the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread. The outbreak intensified rapidly on June 11, 2009, the WHO signaled that a global pandemic of influenza A (H1N1) was underway by raising the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6. The symptoms of novel H1N1 flu virus in people are similar to the symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. A significant number of people who have been infected with this virus also have reported diarrhea and vomiting; like seasonal flu, severe illnesses and death has occurred as a result of illness associated with this virus. There are not enough informations at this time to predict how severe A/ H1N1 flu outbreak will be in terms of illness and death or how it will compare with seasonal influenza. Scientists believes that this virus has the same properties in terms of spread as seasonal flu viruses. With seasonal flu, studies have shown that people may be contagious from one day before they develop symptoms to up to 7 days after they get sick.

IL PROBLEMA LEGIONELLA

La Legionellosi è un'infezione molto grave che può avere effetti letali; normalmente viene contratta per via respiratoria mediante inalazione di aerosol contenente Legionella. Le legionelle sono presenti negli ambienti acquatici naturali quali sorgenti (anche quelle termali), fiumi, laghi, mari. La contaminazione può avvenire anche attraverso le torri di raffreddamento e l’acqua di condensazione dei fan coil negli impianti di climatizzazione. A causa dell'aumento dei casi di polmonite da Legionella in turisti che hanno soggiornato nel nostro Paese, si è reso indispensabile in particolare per le strutture alberghiere e termali, l'attuazione di un protocollo di prevenzione e controllo della malattia infettiva Legionellosi secondo le linee guida pubblicate nella G.U. Serie Generale n. 28 del 4 febbraio 2005. THE LEGIONNAIRES PROBLEM Legionnaires' disease is a severe infection that can be very serious and can cause death. People get Legionnaires' disease when they breathe in a mist or vapour (small droplets of water in the air) that has been contaminated with the bacteria.
