Everest, the top of the world
Towering over the Himalayan mountain range in the southeast region of Tibet, Mount Everest rises to an elevation of 8,848 meters above sea level. The tallest of all mountains, Everest surpasses the next highest mountain by more than two hundred meters. The lure of both adventure and danger bring climbers from all over the world in attempts to scale Everest. Everest was given its name by Britain’s Andrew Waugh who was the Surveyor General in India at the time.
