Startups are newly established businesses (often technology companies) that are in the growth and research phases. Startups are often seeking funding from venture capital firms or angel investors on their path to becoming a profitable business. A startup ceases to be a startup when the company either becomes profitable, becomes a publicly traded company (via an IPO), or is acquired by another company.
