There are several ways with the help of which parents can effectively teach discipline to their children. Shower compliments regularly:
Whenever your child does something good, do not forget to give some compliments to them. This will keep them motivated and will encourage them to make you feel good with their good deeds.
Refuse giving those privileges:
If your little one does something unacceptable, then taking away a privilege can be one of the good and effective methods of child discipline. Cut some time from their usual play time, or don’t let them watch their favourite television network for a couple of days. They will remember what circumstances led to taking away of the privileges which they usually got, and will not get involved in them again.
Time outs:
A tried and tested child discipline strategy is going for time-outs! But the location should be safe for your child. It doesn’t need to be an interesting one, or else your child would enjoy being alone! Make sure that you adopt this method only with a child who is able to handle themselves alone and not a new born baby or a toddler.
Respect is the key to having good relationships:
There is no denying the fact that no relationship can actually flourish in the absence of respect. So, if you want your child to be respectful of you and others, then it is necessary for you to show your child that they are being respected too. So, never lose your calm or talk with disrespect to your child or to anyone else. Always portray the behaviour you want your child to imbibe.
Understand what is the reason behind bad behaviour of your child:
There are some reasons why a particular person behaves a certain way. If your child is constantly showing inappropriate behaviour, then there might be something troubling them. Even though such reasons do not justify bad behaviour, understanding the underlying whys and wherefores is a must if you want your child to be a happy and disciplined person.
Follow these methods of child discipline and observe what changes they bring in your child’s behaviour. Whatever you do, do not forget to show your child your love and care. Children who are aware of the fact that they are loved, have better chances of being a well mannered human being, reciprocating the love their parents have for them.
