RadioShack is among the first national retailers to begin selling HD digital radio receivers. Initially, the Boston Acoustics Recepter Radio (120-0886, $299.99), left, will be available in select stores, as well as online at www.radioshack.com.
An HD radio receiver is required to listen to local FM and AM stations broadcasting their programs digitally, which offers improved sound and reception on both bands. Once you have an HD radio receiver, the static-free, CD-quality programming costs you nothing.
More than 800 stations are already broadcasting in HD digital, with another 1,400 expected to be offering digital broadcasts by the end of the year. About 3,000 U.S. radio stations have committed to airing HD programming. more
