The Spina Bifida of Jacksonville©(SBJ) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1973. SBJ is dedicated to promote the prevention of Spina Bifida, and to enhance the lives of all affected with Spina Bifida. Is our vision that this will enhance the lives of those with spina bifida in our community by providing desperately" needed education and awareness about the effects, treatments and conditions associated with spina bifida through direct services, information, referral, research, education, socialization and vocational development of all children and adults with spina bifida, or deriving from such condition.

Spina Bifida is the most permanently disabling birth defect in the United States. An average of 8 babies every day are born with Spina Bifida or a similar birth defect of the brain and spine. There are over 60 million women in the US who could become pregnant and each one is at risk of having a baby born with Spina Bifida.
