The Beginning
ubPROUD is a site for the creative and the gifted, for the misunderstood and the unappreciated. Creativity is an important part of any well-rounded life, unique to each of us. Art means different things to different people. Shirley Smits knows that.
A relatively unknown poet, Shirley writes mainly about her life experiences. She used to publish her poems on websites and forums on the Internet. During this process she became increasingly aware of the upset and worry faced by fellow artists and writers.
On countless websites, bulletin boards and forums, Shirley saw creative people trying to express themselves as only art enables us to. But she also saw them facing rejection and ridicule. And that can quench anyone's creative genius. She realized that a lot of art and creativity in the world was not getting the chance or the exposure that it deserved.
So Shirley decided to create a community where budding artists and poets could unleash their talents without the fear of rejection or ridicule. With technical and design support from her daughters fiancé, a web designer at OttoDesigns, Shirley launched ubPROUD. As she puts it, "there is no comment box!"
ubPROUD - Be PROUD of What You Can Do!
ubPROUD currently has a variety of sections where you can showcase your work, including:
The ubPROUD team consists of Shirley, her daughter Cherie and friends Sir Ian Paul, Paddy, Conna Lee, Prasad, Catherine, Dee, Lady Prichell, and Karen H-H.
The site hosts an active pool of talented artists, collectively known as the ubProud Talent.
Anyone can contribute to the ubPROUD Public Gallery as long as their contributions are original. In order to encourage budding artists to come forth without fear, ubPROUD policy states that original contributors retain the copyrights to their works. Additionally, ubPROUD provides its services free of cost, so there are no charges for allowing artists to be showcased.
The Rose that you see to your right is the ubPROUD rose, awarded to the team's favorite talent. Additionally, an as yet undisclosed award will be granted to the finest work by an upcoming artist, and the piece will appear in the first edition of ubPROUD's upcoming publication.
ubPROUD is taking a brave step in attracting members of the public to safe place that is free from sex, nudity, bad language, torment and ridicule.
