History

U.S. Bancorp exists today as the result of a number of mergers and acquisitions.

Originally, the first usage of U.S. Bancorp was the result of a 1997 merger between First Bank System, Inc., founded in 1929, and the United States Bank of Oregon. The United States Bank of Oregon was originally the United States National Bank of Portland, which was first founded in 1891. After 1997, the name was changed to U.S. Bancorp.
