Title

The Camargo Foundation, Cassis, France

Description

The Camargo Foundation maintains a study center in Cassis, France, for the benefit of fellows who wish to pursue projects in the humanities and social sciences related to French and Francophone cultures, as well as creative projects by writers, composers, visual artists (painters, sculptors, photographers, video artists, filmmakers, and new media artists). Creative projects do not need to have a specific French connection. For scholarly projects, research should be at a sufficiently advanced stage so as not to require resources unavailable in the Marseilles-Cassis Aix region. These geographic limits affirm the Foundation’s identity and mission as a residence center for scholars and artists who are well into the writing/making phases of their projects as opposed to a research facility.

The Foundation offers, at no cost, thirteen furnished apartments as well as a reference library, a darkroom, an artist’s studio, a music composition studio, and a studio for either an artist or a composer. The residential fellowship is for a period of one semester (either Fall or Spring) and includes a $3,500 stipend that is awarded automatically to each recipient of the grant.

The Camargo Foundation's buildings have a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean and Cap Canaille, one of the highest maritime cliffs in Europe. The buildings contain thirteen apartments, a music-conference room, a library, a reading room, a darkroom, and studios for the composer and visual artist.
