Besides the first Armenian hospitals and leprosariums built three centuries earlier than in Western Europe were founded in these very holy places. The roots of Medical science in Armenia go back to Vagharshapat's Arshakunyants (12 century), Hagpat, Gladzor (13-14 centuries), Ani, Tatev, Metsopk, Yerznka and other higher schools, some of which were proudly considered as Universities. in the thinkers of that time medicine and medical science occupied their significant place in the multilateral system of the medieval singes education.
