The IT Priorities Research Programme is ZDNet UK's means of staying in very close touch with the technology plans of UK organisations. The programme started in May 2003 and has been collecting data continuously since that time. The programme is designed to provide a near-real-time snapshot of business technology initiatives over three time frames: Now, the next 12 months, and 18-24 months.
Every 90 days, the ZDNet UK team selects a representative sample of 200 IT managers. We ask them three open-ended questions -
These 1,800 free-form answers are then hand-coded and mapped to our comprehensive list of IT categories. From there the data is analysed to produce five topics rank-ordered by time window (current issue, medium-term, long-term) and these topics are used to shape the content that sits around IT Priorities for that given quarter.
