Description
Canfield Gallery specializes in modern art of the 20th and 21st century. In Santa Fe in the heart of the gallery district for 25 years, Canfield Gallery exhibits paintings from the estates of artists of mid-20th century—Lawrence Calcagno, Thomas Benrimo, Jorge Fick, Leo Garel, J Ward Lockwood, Oli Sihvonen, Louis Catusco and Robert Jay Wolff—many of whom had close connections to Taos and Santa Fe as well as to the New York and California art worlds. The gallery represents contemporary artists Catherine Green, Michael Cook and Ronald Slowinski—and sculptors Michael Ricks and Barbara Baer. The gallery owners are Kenneth Canfield and Barbara Canfield, both with backgrounds in visual arts. Pamela A. McMahan, gallery director, is a longtime Santa Fe artist. The gallery also shows work by Andrew Dasburg, Edward Corbett, Wolcott Ely, Louise Ganthiers, Raymond Jonson, Haynes Ownby, Clay Spohn and Earl Stroh. Other artists of interest: Kenneth Adams, Josef Albers, Emil Bisttram, Howard Cook, Raymond Eastwood, Ed Garman, Dorothy Morang, Lee Mullican, Ad Reinhardt, Hassel Smith, Clyfford Still and Cady Wells.
