Title

Chicago International Childrens Film Festival Welcome You

Description

For the first time ever in the 22-year-long history of the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, audiences were perfectly divided over this year’s best films, awarding an unprecedented dual Best of Fest awards to Peter Timm for My Brother is a Dog (Germany, 2004), a funny and delightful film that shows that we don’t always need wishes because sometimes we already have everything we need to be happy, and Liisa Helminen for The Pelican Man (Finland, 2004), an engaging comedy about a pelican so curious and fascinated by humans, he takes on a human form to live and learn more about them.

The 22nd Annual Chicago International Children’s Film Festival was full of fun and surprises thanks to Master of Ceremonies, Irma P. Hall (Soul Food) and co-host, Khleo Thomas (Holes, The Golden Blaze). Khleo Thomas who played Jason/ Sure Shot in The Golden Blaze was happily surprised when The Golden Blaze won First Prize for the Children’s Jury Prize – Animated Feature Film or Video award, and he graciously accepted the award on behalf of director, Bryon E. Carson. Irma P Hall, in addition to hosting this year’s closing night awards ceremony, attended a screening of Proud to be Me: Stories of African American Children and afterwards, spoke with over 100 Chicago children about this series of short films that celebrates the achievements of African American kids.

On Thursday, November 3rd acclaimed actor and writer, Paul Dooley (Breaking Away, Happy Texas) will speak to 300 students at Philo Carpenter Elementary (1250 W. Erie Street) at 8:30 a.m. about being a Hollywood actor and his leading role in the film Come Away Home playing at the 22nd Annual Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.
