In January 1999, GE Lighting and EMCORE formed GELcore, a joint venture to develop and market High Brightness Light Emitting Diode (HB-LED) technologies and systems. GELcore combines EMCORE’s compound semiconductor experience with GE Lighting’s brand name recognition, strong phosphor portfolio and extensive marketing and distribution capabilities.
GELcore’s current product line includes high-performance LED traffic and rail signals, the GE Tetra brand of LED lighting systems for indoor & outdoor signage, and innovative LED systems designed for use in architectural, consumer and specialty lighting applications. In the near term, GELcore will continue to drive the adoption of integrated LED solutions throughout the world. Over the long term, GELcore is aggressively investing in the research and development of LED technologies to support the advancement of white LEDs in the emerging general illumination market.
