- Disk Operating System - this means, that it provides only the basic features like file system, memory manager (partially), task manager (Dr-DOS only) and some utilites. So it is much more difficult to understand than a GUI operating system like Windows. But it is much smaller and easier than Linux and ideal for embbed systems and old desktop systems. You can also use it as an audio ( MP3 ,OGG,...) and video ( DivX , VideoCD ) player or surfing across the internet. If you never have seen DOS before or are unsure, what DOS extactly is, you can have a look at the Gallery Main.Gallery containing screenshots of DOS itself, its utils and some DOS based apps.
