Description
The Fryeburg New Church Assembly is a family summer camp for the purposes of relaxation, meditation, and spiritual study of the doctrines of the Christian religion as revealed in the Lord’s Word and explained in the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg. The first session of the Fryeburg New Church Assembly was held in the summer of 1921. The organization was incorporated in 1928 and purchased land by the Saco River in Fryeburg , Maine . With the exception of a four-year period during WWII, the Assembly has met every August since, at the beautiful, riverside campus in Fryeburg on the New Hampshire border.
The setting is comfortable, spectacular and inspiring. From the spacious, terraced lawn in front the main building, one savors the refreshing aroma of majestic white pines and gazes westward upon the Saco River in the foreground gently winding its way past the campus dock, with the breathtaking view of the White Mountains rising above and to the horizon. The Saco is clear and clean – perfect for swimming and canoeing – and the nearby Maine and New Hampshire mountains offer plenty of prime hiking trails.
The large front porch of the campus’ main building offers outdoor space for reading, socializing, and enjoying the mountain views. Behind the main building is a large grass field for volleyball, horseshoes, and other outdoor activities. The entire camp gathers in the main building dining hall for three delicious and wholesome meals every day. Comfortable campus lodging includes cabins and tent sites, rooms in the main building and dormitories for teenagers – ever a vibrant presence at the Assembly. This great summer family camp experience has become a tradition for many for generations.
