Gretchen P. Kenagy received her BA in history from Kenyon College, Master’s degree in Social Work and Ph.D. in Social Welfare from the University of Pennsylvania. Gretchen recently joined the American Medical Association as a Senior Research Associate in the Medical Education Division. Previously, she spent 10 years in academia conducting research and teaching. She has taught in the areas of social welfare history, social welfare policy, multiculturalism, gender and sexuality and HIV/AIDS. Gretchen’s areas of research include health and social service needs, access to care, HIV/AIDS, and gender identity. Additionally, she has worked at the National Institute of Mental Health as part of a research team studying the effects of antiretroviral drugs on cognition among patients with HIV/AIDS. Gretchen serves as an expert consultant for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She has authored numerous articles in refereed journals. She has also served on the editorial board of an academic journal and as a reviewer for many academic journals.
