Title

Hollis Taggart Galleries | Specialist in Fine American Art of the 19th and 20th centuries

Description

For more than twenty-five years, Hollis Taggart Galleries has specialized in fine American art of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The gallery’s nineteenth-century expertise includes Hudson River School painting, Luminism, and American Impressionism. In twentieth century art, movements including the Ashcan group, Stieglitz circle modernism, Abstract Expressionism, and Minimalism are represented by the gallery.

The gallery is located on the Upper East Side’s Museum Mile, just across the street from the Whitney Museum of American Art. In this ideal setting, the gallery is poised to continue its mission of presenting numerous museum-quality exhibitions, which have significantly contributed to the study of American art. Curated by the gallery’s directors with foremost scholars in the field, Hollis Taggart Galleries has organized critically acclaimed exhibitions. We have been pleased to collaborate with over thirty museums and institutions that have loaned works to these shows. Substantial scholarly catalogues accompany each exhibition; these publications are important sources of information and new research.

Hollis Taggart Galleries is sponsoring two catalogues raisonnés. Nearing completion, the Pennsylvania Impressionist Daniel Garber’s two-volume catalogue raisonné includes over 1,500 entries. In the year 2000, the gallery launched the Frederick Carl Frieseke catalogue, which is currently being compiled by the artist’s grandson.
