In the beginning
It all began with one couple - dedicated supporters of Israel, longtime patrons of the arts and education, individuals of foresight, imagination and commitment.
Mary Jane and Robert Asher of Chicago embraced a vision of a summertime arts community for Israeli youth. They dreamed of a gathering place where talented youngsters could explore and develop their abilities in music, dance, theater, fine arts and creative writing; receive intensive, high-level training; and enjoy social, cultural and artistic experiences with their peers. In 1981, the Ashers established MatanArts, and generously provided cornerstone support throughout its early years.
MatanArts today
MatanArts has grown into a year-long program for youngsters 11-18. Today we have the summer camp, special workshops during spring and winter school vacations, regional youth orchestras and jazz ensembles, master classes, personal and group tutorials, and visits to a wide range of artistic and cultural venues.
