Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer
Description
About Scott
Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer has devoted his entire career to community and public service since his appointment, at age 17, to his local Community Board.
Scott was born in 1960 and raised in Washington Heights. He graduated from local public schools in Washington Heights and Inwood and went on to receive a B.A. in Government Studies from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. After serving six terms in the New York State Assembly, Scott was elected Borough President of Manhattan in November 2005.
As a member of the Assembly, Scott was a leading reformer and advocate for New York’s working families. He authored landmark legislation to protect victims of domestic violence by requiring police officers to serve orders of protection on their behalf and passed the Anti-Stalking Law to stop violence against women before it starts. Scott led the fight against the repeal of the commuter tax and voted against every attempt to weaken rent regulations. And as Chair of the Assembly’s Real Property Taxation Committee, Scott passed laws in the wake of the $1 billion tax assessor scandal to protect New York taxpayers.
