Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry and Jaypee University of Information Technology. Government PG Degree College, Sanskrit College, College of Education, professional institutions like Dental College, Homeopath Medical College, GreenHill Engineering College etc. attracts students from different parts of the country to Solan. M.S. Panwar Institute of Communication & Management, an institution affiliated to Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, Bhopal, has emerged as a Centre of Excellence in Media Education. Managed by a registered Trust - M.S. Panwar Foundation- the Institute offers full time regular graduate and post-graduate degree programs in Journalism, Mass Communication and Advertising & Public Relations. The Institute functions from its own premises and provides separate hostel facilities for boys & girls. The media courses through Distance Education mode are affiliated to Guru Jambeshwar University, Hisar and the regular Evening courses are affiliated to Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan , Mumbai . Given the spectacular growth of the media sector in India, the courses provide students a first-hand feel of a sector that touches their lives in very many ways. These courses while providing a ringside view of the media industry, will be far more exciting for young minds than the general undergraduate program in History, Political Science, Sociology etc. available in Indian universities. In fact, the undergraduate programme offer courses in Indian politics, economy & society. It also opens up challenging avenues for higher studies, both within the country and abroad. The Institute is named after late Shri. M.S. Panwar, sportsman, sports organizer and social worker and has been set up to organise quality education, training and research in journalism, mass media, advertising, media management and related fields. It aspires to be the first-of-its-kind training institution in this part of the country giving exposure to media-persons and budding journalists on social issues and other problems specific to the country and the region. Besides conducting media courses, the Institute plans to have a vibrant Development Communication unit giving exposure to the students for being part of an integrated media. Ideas like Community Radio and TV studio, Web-based media and newspapers and magazines that can become part of community development and growth would be put in action by the Institute. Small projects involving students would be started to demonstrate the viability of these and other concepts. The institute has already applied to the Government of India for obtaining license for setting of Community Radio Station (FM). This would provide exposure to our students and broaden their perspective and horizon on social issues. The institute and its projects are gender sensitive and both men and women would be involved in all the ventures. It provides a pollution free, vibrant, academic environment to the students.
