The lead character in Universal Signs, Andrew, is an artist. Therefore, Universal Signs commissioned a talented, Bucks County artist, Sally Trace, to create a few original pieces for the film that are to represent Andrew's artwork. Sally is also allowing Universal Signs to use some of her other work in the film as set decorations in Andrew's home. You will be able to see the following beautiful images in the movie, and you can purchase replicas for yourself! Qoro, LLC of New Castle, DE, who has created reproductions for the Barnes Foundation, has faithfully reproduced these unique, dream-like images as high quality prints on canvas. Like the original oil paintings, they remain colorfast and water resistant for generations. All proceeds from the sale of these stunning works of art go to Creative Access for the making of Universal Signs.
Sally Trace is a painter of contemporary, modern, abstract art reflecting influences of Cubism, Modernism, the Bauhaus, Surrealism, and Psychedelia. Her gallery is located in Occasions in New Hope, PA, next to the James A. Michener Art Museum and New Hope Train Station.
Art is a metaphor for life. In both cases, we keep mucking through the rubble, the chaos and ugliness while keeping our perceptions tuned for perfection. When we are fortunate, a glimpse of perfection does emerge. It exists, with absolute clarity, behind all of our perceptions of chaos, and occasionally we are able to uncover it and see it's grace and power. That's why painting is a metaphor... the field is completely open each time we step up to the canvas; we are free to go in any direction. But exercising that freedom is a paradox because the rules about what works visually are as perfect and eloquent as the rules of mathematics, in a wild sort of way. Maybe they're the same rules in a different context. So absolute freedom in painting is a matter of relinquishing one's free will to the requirements of the painting. Just like life in general, we're only really free when we relinquish our own willfulness to Divine will.
