Founded in 1954 in Orange County, the Southwestern Herpetologists Society has met continuously in a variety of locations over the years. The parent organization is now centered in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County. The Al Robbins Chapter was brought into the Society in January 1999 to further serve members in central California. In January 2001 we saluted the return of the Inland Empire, which, many years ago had a chapter and now hosts a branch. Membership in SWHS is open to anyone interested in the study and conservation of reptiles and amphibians.
To enhance the education of the members and the general public concerning the roles of amphibians and reptiles in the natural world.
To provide information for the closer cooperation between amateur and professional herpetologists, that they may work together for the promotion of the science of herpetology.
