Description

Earth is our temple, nature our altar. Earth Divine Mother, all else Divine Father. SE Arizona mountains, 5,200’ on 1,200+ acres is home of SummerLand Monastery, ATC (est. 1993), ATC. We are a mortgage-free, off-grid (wind & solar power, water well), ecological research (alternative building & sustainable gardening) and healing retreat for tough pioneer spirits (tobacco free & meat/fish/chicken free). Our public outreach is the empowerment of minority, disabled youth who are living in poverty: serving them through education, including arts & drama. Spiritual growth takes time. A vow to a monastic lifestyle was made in 1979. SummerLand Monastery, ATC was conceived in 1991; incorporated in 1993. WindTree Ranch was established as the home of SummerLand Monastery, ATC in 1996. We had 1200+ acres within our borders and trusted that nearly $200K would be manifested to pay off the mortgage. The mortgage was paid in full Beltane 2003. We express our faith by 'Walking Our Talk.' We believe that 'Environmental awareness results in personal spiritual growth;' given that, we strive to stay in balance. We are an eco-sustainable work-in-progress. We live a monastic lifestyle, owning nothing, giving all to the monastery, and we work to be debt free. We have a simple veggie-based life, without the use of tobacco, any animal flesh, or controlled substances. Our alternative building incorporates about 60% recycled materials. Our outreach charity work includes recycling donations from the affluent areas of the USA into pueblos on the Mexico border. We seek to increase the self-esteem of those who visit us, especially the children. We are very remote, very dedicated, and very determined to help each other. Contact a volunteer at 4200 E. Summerland Road, Douglas, AZ 85607-5271.
