Back in 1976, when George Yancho of Trim Pines Farm first planted evergreen trees on his 80-acre farm in Grand Blanc, little did he know that he was starting a 3-generation tradition of growing trees. The Christmas Tree venture George started has evolved into a full fledged garden center and landscape design/build operation where Oakland and Genesee county residents and businesses can go for in-depth tree and plant knowledge and support, as well as high-quality evergreen, ornamental and shade trees, shrubs, and perennials for their landscapes. Trim Pines Farm offers full landscape design and installation services for residential and commercial customers, as well.
It all began when George moved his family to the Baldwin Rd. farm in 1962. The family operated a “cash crop” farm growing corn, wheat and soybeans. They farmed on many parcels of area land that are now known in Grand Blanc as Kirkridge, Braemoor, Woodfield, Pine Hollow, The Preserve, Genesys, Alterra, and others.
In 1975 George became interested in "choose and cut" Christmas trees and began planting Scotch pines. Every year he added more varieties. Today Trim Pines Farm grows 6 different types of pine, 6 types of spruce and 5 different firs. The family began giving hayrides to and from the tree cutting fields with its teams of Belgian horses. The Christmas tree cutting experience has expanded to include entertainment activities such as Santa Claus, refreshments, reindeer, petting zoo and up to 5 teams of horses pulling wagons!
