An organization providing services for used car dealers and consumers.
The UCDA was founded by 7 Ontario dealers and was incorporated as a not-for-profit association on November 15, 1984. Managed by an Executive Director and a staff of 19, the policies and direction of the association are governed by a 9 person Board of Directors who reflect the makeup of the membership.
The UCDA in 2009 represents more than 4400 dealer members who are estimated to account for over 60% of the dealers registered in Ontario and who actively participate in the Used Vehicle Industry.
The geographical distribution of members throughout the province is very evenly balanced and averages 40% to 66% of all registered dealers in the various towns and cities. For example, 38% of all the dealers in Ottawa are UCDA members, 51% in Sudbury, 49% in Toronto and 53% in Pembroke. There are UCDA members in more than 503 Ontario communities.
The UCDA's membership is made up of 67% independent dealers and 23% franchised dealers. Leasing companies, auto recyclers, truck dealers and associate member make up the remaining 10%.
With an in-house legal staff of 2 lawyers, UCDA members have access to free legal advice & customer mediation services. Numerous business services available to members include vehicle lien, accident damage & history searches, garage insurance and health & dental plans, in addition to specially designed forms for the used vehicle industry.

Mediation Service
The UCDA offers a free mediation service for consumers who have a concern regarding a purchase or lease of a used vehicle. Staffed by two in-house lawyers who are well versed in vehicle transaction law the UCDA works to assist in resolving transactional issues quickly and at no cost to the participants.
Generally, mediations are carried out by phone, fax and email, with a view to resolution in days if not hours.
