Description

The Union Daily Times, Union County's oldest business enterprise, was established May 31, 1850, under the name of The Unionville Journal. Robert McKnight was its first editor.

In 1872, Robert M. Stokes became owner and editor, changing the paper's name to The Unionville Times. When the town became known as Union, the appendage was dropped and the paper was circulated as The Weekly Union Times, then the Union Times. The Rev. Lewis Malone Rice acquired the newspaper in 1906 and on Oct. 1, 1917, he converted it to a daily and changed the name to The Union Daily Times.

After Rice's death in 1946, his grandson, William R. Feaster, assumed the duties of editor, Feaster served as editor and publisher until his death in 1967. Feaster's widow, Dorothy, took over as editor and publisher until the newspaper was sold to Mid-South Management on Sept. 11, 1974.
