Urban Outlaw Productions originated in San Francisco in 1994 while Craig Quackenbush attended film school at the Academy of Art College. In the name of professionalism (and the professor's behest) he needed a production company name for class-related film projects. An advocate of the guerrilla-outlaw style of filmmaking for which the independent film community is famous, and living in the Tenderloin (the decrepit heart of San Francisco), the name came quickly and easily.
